Hervé Souhaut 2022 Sainte Epine
Amazing wines from the Northern Rhône.
Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet was created by Hervé Souhaut in 1993. It is located in Arlebosc, Northern Ardeche, just opposite Hermitage, in Saint Joseph. Unlike the traditional wines of Northern Rhône, Souhaut aims to make wines that can be drunk young but also age, focusing on extraction and producing a balanced tannin. He is a strict organic viticulturist and works with vines ranging from 50-100 years old.
Saint-Épine is Syrah from 100 year old vines that lie on a crazy steeped slope.
Like all his wines, it is fermented as whole bunch and undergoes long maceration. Spicy, floral, with a looooong finish. Pure and mineral Saint Joseph. Unicorn wine if ever we saw one.
